J. Michael DeAngelis

J. Michael DeAngelis is a writer, actor and director. His short play, Drop (co-written  with Pete Barry), was a winner of the 2009 Samuel French Off Off  Broadway Short Play Festival.  He has written or co-written the plays Fan Fiction (part of X/Y), Deep Fried Everything, Reunion Special (part of Accidents Happen), Reverie and Signs from God.  He starred in and co-wrote the short film Tails Between Their Legs, which was a winner of the National Film Challenge.  And God Spoke…,  a comedy pilot he wrote and directed, aired on SETV in Pennsylvania. He  shared the 2009 NJACT Perry Award for Outstanding Production of an  Original Play for Accidents Happen. His most recent play with Pete Barry, Antony & Cleopatra: Infinite Lives,  sold out its entire run at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, followed  the next summer by an acclaimed run at the New York International Fringe Festival.

He is the Managing Director of the Porch Room, where he has written and performed in An Evening on the Porch, Accidents Happen, Signs from God, Agoraphobia, All in the Head, Deep Fried Everything, X/Y, and the short film Early Morning in the Tenement.  He is The Porch Room’s director of choice in Philadelphia, where he’s mounted Signs from God, X/Y and Antony & Cleopatra: Infinite Lives. For over a decade, wrote and directed The Penn Life Sketches, a sketch comedy show performed for incoming freshmen at the University of Pennsylvania, for whom he also produces and hosts the CS Radio podcast.

His acting credits include lead or featured roles in Company,  Lady in the Dark, Anything Goes, The Marriage of Bette & Boo, Angels  in America, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream,  Titus Andronicus, Speed-The-Plow, Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night and Little Shop of Horrors. His voice can be heard on various podcasts including Oz-9, Listen Rinse Repeat, and Tales from the Plum Forrest.

His most recent projects include directing a production of As You Like It with music by Pete Barry and co-creating, writing and producing The Porch Room’s full-cast podcast comedy Mission: Rejected.  A proud graduate of Muhlenberg College, Michael resides in Philadelphia.  He is a member of the Dramatist Guild of America.
